Clinical Trial SWOG 9346 Description This study is looking at intermittent versus continuous hormone therapy for patients with prostate cancer. Requirements
Synopsis Combined androgen deprivation (CAD) therapy has many side effects that affect the quality of life of the men who take them. Among these: hot flashes, sweats, nausea, dizziness, decreased sexual drive, breast tenderness, and enlarged breast. For these reasons, many men avoid CAD. Intermittent (non-continual) therapy may be a way to continue treatment while having an occasional break from its side effects. CAD therapy will be given for 7 months. At the end of that time, men assigned to Group A will continue receiving the medication, while those in Group B will not. Patients will be watched closely, and PSA blood levels will be taken every month. If the patients in Group B begin to progress, they will be placed back on the medication and continue observation. If the PSA level stays low, patients will continue to be observed. Patients will stay on the medication until they progress, after which they will be removed for further treatment by their physician. If you are interested in participating in this trial, or would like more information, please contact our office.
